first, i don't use the shift key. yes, yes, i am lazy. now onto your voice. in one of your entries, you spoke of not being heard despite the microphone and therefore you were having trouble getting a response from the audience because they couldn't hear you. i have a suggestion for that. take an acting class. i'm pretty sure that the university there offers some acting classes, or even a voice class. they would teach you breath control, diaphram control, and most important of all, voice projection. it also helps with stage presence as well as dealing with nervousness. i know that acting (or in my case, doing presentations/workshops) is quite different from being a stand up comedian. but some of the stage tricks you might find useful. i used to be quite fearful of standing up in front of an audience, my voice would quaver and i would end up whispering. since i took an acting class i can stand up in front of an audience and speak confidently. also, the people at the back of a large room can hear me, even without a microphone. the subject i usually speak about is myself and child sexual abuse. anyway, best of luck on your gigs. or am i supposed to tell you to "kill them" or "break a leg?" those are such violent ways of wishing another person well. anyway, be funny.
