I had the FUNKIEST dream yesterday where I was running for student body president against Omarosa. I wrote a speech, and then I went to take a shower. While I was in the bathroom, I realized I left it out where she could steal it, so I ran out, and, sure enough, she had stolen two pages of my speech. (One of which was written on my very large underwear.) (Yeah, I'm not sure why.)(And my underwear aren't actually THAT big.)(Anyway..) Then she ran into the bathroom that I was in, so I go slamming in there, hitting her with the door, scream-asked where my speech was, and she was all, "La dee dah, I don't know." So we got into a scuffle. I managed to knock her down, but there, as per usual in dreams, my punches didn't really land with any power, but, fortunately for my ego, neither did hers. Flash to "next day", we're giving our speeches in a classroom. She gave hers first. And then Dick Cheney said, "Ok, that's all the speeches, cast your votes now." And I was all, "WHAT? I didn't get to do my speech." And he said, "Well, whatever you've said as soon as you got to this room was your speech." And I was all, "Oh haaaaaaaaaail to the naw." So I went up to the front of the class and said, "You may have voted just based on the speeches, and if so, I wasn't given my fair turn. If you support fair turns, let's get to the office before the ballots get turned in. We can turn this around!" Everyone supported me (so I'm not sure why they didn't just vote for me in the first place) and we all started running to the office. Omarosa and Cheney started running after me. I lost Cheney pretty quickly, but Omarosa did give me a run for my money.

And then I woke up because that dream was just too weird even for me...

I have a couple of friends who I used to work for at my first retail job. They were an "older" couple, like my parents older not like grandparents older. Anyway, they were very sweet. They were from Louisiana, and they were ex-hippies. The guy was the manager. I actually worked for that store twice. The first time, I really, really hated the guy. He was such a jackass. But the second time I worked there, I realized that he was just a lot smarter than the rest of us. I think I was just learning what maturity was, and I think he was starting to mellow out in his older age.

I had been there long enough for the turnover rate in that store to boost me up to assistant manager. That's right, baby, making $300 a week. Jealous? As assistant manager, they took me under their collective wing even more. We weren't just co-workers, we were family. I learned a lot about business. And since they were ex-hippies, I learned the problems with "big business". :) My manager would DAILY have tiffs with the corporate owner over the way the owner was running the business. These problems became self-evident as all our sister stores closed down, and then finally, our store.

It was hard to see them go. They were more parental to me than my parentals were. They weren't sure what they were going to do, but they knew they were going back "home" to New Orleans.

I lost touch with them over the years, as I lose touch with everyone. (Yeah, just not something I'm very good at.) I just knew they had also gotten into the casino business and out there dealing.

As you might have heard, New Orleans has been ravaged by a hurricane. Two now. But wait, it gets better... They ran to be with their daughter....who lives in HOUSTON...which, as you may know, was evacuated for Rita.

After Hurricane Katrina, I tried emailing them at their last known email address. The email bounced back, so I tried every variation....because I wasn't smart enough to google their names. As Rita approached, I finally smartened up and found their new email address immediately.

They are, in fact, on the run from Rita. I haven't gotten a full update, but they are fine. They have also been extended an invitation to come back to Vegas...as long as they leave the hurricanes behind them. :)
